Where the engraving goes

Almost always the caseback— the flat metal disc on the underside of the watch. It’s private, protected, and doesn’t alter the look of the watch. Two cautions: a watch with a see-through (“exhibition”) caseback usually can’t be engraved, and a curved caseback limits space. Confirm the specific model is engravable before you buy, and use the retailer’s service or a trusted local jeweler.
